New Mexican Restaurant to open by end of the year

Rodolfo and Maria Torres-Leon are set to launch their ninth Cinco de Mayo outlet at 301 E. Bay St. The inaugural Cinco de Mayo was established at Jacksonville Landing in 2007 but had to shut down in 2020 when the city took over the shopping center, leading to the eviction of almost 30 small enterprises to raze the festival marketplace.

To gain greater autonomy over their venture, the proprietors acquired the erstwhile Olio restaurant spot on the ground floor of the J.H. Churchwell Lofts edifice. The eatery, specializing in a vast array of Mexican dishes, will house a comprehensive bar. This includes the likes of tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and more, as well as a refreshing margarita or other tasty drink with your meal.

While this won’t be the first Mexican restaurant to operate out of Jacksonville, it certainly comes with a good reputation, and the owners are certainly experienced enough in their domain. With this said, hopefully, this venture will last longer than the first time around.

It plans to operate from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday and extend until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The owners anticipate recruiting 15 to 20 staff members for this new Downtown establishment, aiming for a launch by the year’s close.
