It’s not every day that you’ll see a TV show dedicate an entire episode to the state of Virginia. However, this is what happened on this week’s episode of the hit cartoon, Rick & Morty. Here, the show took the saying ‘Virginia is for lovers‘ quite literally as this was the central theme throughout.

Without giving too much away, the episode began with Virginia declaring it law that everyone must be in love. While this sounds wholesome enough, it quickly emerged that this was due to an alien using mind control on the entire state, to send a message to her ex-partner, Rick.

This ended with the state being covered in a dome before the people broke out to spread the love. It also involved the US President (based on Barack Obama) venturing into Virginia to solve the problem. Over the years, you could argue that Virginia hasn’t had enough love (excuse the pun) from the movie and TV industry. With this in mind, it’s good to see it get mainstream recognition. Having said this, it wasn’t exactly a realistic portrayal of the state and was pretty bizarre, to say the least.

For those wondering, Rick & Morty is a wild, wacky, and sometimes downright weird animated TV show that follows the adventures of a genius scientist named Rick and his not-so-genius grandson Morty. They hop around different dimensions and universes, getting into all kinds of zany situations, often involving wacky alien creatures, outlandish technology, and plenty of pop culture references.
