Popular NYC Italian Restaurant closes – Blaming lease and migrant issues

This week, it was confirmed that NYC’s Sauce and Barrel has permanently closed. Located on Washington Street, this eatery and cocktail bar had enjoyed years of success before its abrupt closure. This means that the nature of its exit may come as a shock to some. News of the closure first appeared online when someone photographed a sign left on their front door. It has also been confirmed by Google.

This thanked customers for their years of patronage while also stating: ‘A combination of a challenging lease agreement, strained business partnerships, and the transformation of the hotel into a migrant shelter has made it unfeasible for us to continue operating. Despite our best efforts, we have come to the realization that closing is the most responsible course of action.’ More information can be seen below.

This restaurant was part of a condo that had seen many previous venues come and go. For instance, its predecessor didn’t even last one year. In fact, many of the local businesses in the area have struggled, meaning this specific location seems to be infamous for struggling businesses.

When referencing the migrant housing, it is believed that Sauce and Barrel were talking about the loss of customers associated with the nearby hotel, while they may have been priced out of a lease renewal. Overall, this is a shame as it had positive reviews. At this point in time, it is not known what will be replacing the venue.
