St. Petersburg Cat Cafe closes – Leaving cats up for adoption

November 1, 2023 by No Comments

If you’re a cat lover then it’s bad news as The Sunshine Kitty Catfé will be closing permanently this weekend with no plans to re-open. The venue has been located in St. Petersburg for several years with the goal of getting cats adopted. Here, people could book slots to visit, hang out with cats, have food and drink, and possibly go home with a cat. In short, this idea combined an adoption home with a cafe, where customers could get to know the cats in a relaxed setting, before making a decision as to whether they wanted to adopt or not.

Unfortunately, news of its closure also means that a number of its cats are up for adoption. News of the closure was made on their Instagram account, along with a plea for the public to adopt their remaining cats. Here, they wrote: ‘Happy Halloween! The most haunting thing about today is realizing that this weekend is the last of kitty visits before we close forever. We’re not relocating, folks, this is it. Only a handful of spots remain, so if you want to get in a visit, book meow! After November 5th, Sunshine Kitty will be but a fond memory.’

The cat lounge did not give their reasons for closing. However, this sadly may mean that in the future, the stray cat population of St. Petersburg may now increase. At this point in time, it is not known what will replace the location.
