A new coffee shop will soon be gracing the Rutgers dorm with its presence. This was confirmed after a Newark local spotted a new sign outside of a previously vacant building, which confirmed that a coffee shop was in the works.

The shop in question is Matto Espresso which is an East Coast chain, that already owns over 30 coffee shops in the region. Here, it has locations across New York and Boston. Recently, it has enjoyed an expansion policy in the area, so it makes strategic sense to see it coming to Newark. It also makes sense to locate near students, who are infamous for using coffee shops while studying. Below, the details of the opening can be seen on a sign on the entrance door.

This is to be located at 69 Halsey and interestingly this means that it will enter direct competition with other coffee shops in the area, including Starbucks which is close by. Clearly, Matto believes that they can outperform their rivals and have confidence in their coffee.

At this moment in time, an exact opening date is unknown. In fact, other than the aforementioned image, there isn’t much information surrounding this opening whatsoever. However, due to the very early stages, it looks like this won’t be opening until early next year at the very earliest.
