Wisconsin is set to welcome its first Pan-Asia Supermarket, which will be situated in West Allis at 6900 W. Greenfield Ave.

This supermarket chain, known for importing goods from Asian and Mid-East nations, currently operates in Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma, with a total of six stores. The West Allis store will be its seventh outlet.

According to municipal records, the supermarket will take over approximately 36,000 square feet of unused retail space in the West Allis Towne Center. The Planning Commission gave the green light to the site, landscaping, and architectural plans for the supermarket this past Wednesday.

Previously, this space was home to Kmart, which shut its doors in 2017 amidst a wave of store closures. Currently, Hobby Lobby occupies another section of the building.

In 2018, the Journal Sentinel noted that certain business proposals for this location were rejected due to non-compliance with the city’s site and zoning design criteria.

Construction of the supermarket is anticipated to kick off between February and March 2024, with the entire process expected to last six to seven months. Ethan Lin, the project manager for the store, predicts a grand opening towards the close of 2024.

Shoppers at Pan-Asia Supermarket can look forward to an array of Asian produce, including vegetables, fruits, seafood, meats, and other grocery items. The store’s proposal highlights an impressive range: over 100 varieties each of fresh/live seafood, fresh meats, and fresh produce.

The supermarket plans to operate every day of the year, from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Additionally, it will feature a café with seating for 56 patrons and counter service. However, the café will not serve alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises.
