Weckerly’s Ice Cream has revealed its plans to shut down after operating for 11 years. The store on West Girard Avenue will serve its last customers on Saturday, Dec. 23.

The owners, Jen and Andy Satinsky, shared an emotional message on Instagram Monday morning, addressing their ‘dear friends and ice cream enthusiasts from all corners’ about their decision to close.

The duo reminisced about their journey, recalling how they sold their first ice cream cup at Green Line Cafe in West Philly in 2012.

Over the past decade, Weckerly’s has carved a niche for itself in Philly, becoming a favorite spot for its French-style custard ice cream. They produced their rich-flavored ice creams at Globe Dye Works, a transformed textile factory in North Philly, and offered scoops, pints, and ice cream sandwiches at their charming Fishtown outlet.

For the next six weeks, Weckerly’s plans to introduce new flavors and might even revisit some of the crowd favorites. They also hinted at a final merchandise release and provided a heads-up about upcoming pre-orders.

In related news, Weckerly’s associate, Lil Pop Shop, managed by Jeanne Chang, also declared its retail operations’ conclusion on Instagram. The West Philly store on 44th Street will wrap up its services on Saturday, Dec. 2. However, their catering arm, Popalong, will remain operational into the forthcoming year.
