Portland’s Turn! Turn! Turn! bar is to close on December 31st after losing its lease. This will undoubtedly come as bad news for fans of the venue. However, they did hint at opening elsewhere further down the line. Having said this, it looks as though this idea was being floated and right now a new project is not confirmed. The news of its impending closure was first broken on their Instagram which detailed the closure in full.

Here, they wrote: ‘With appropriate heaviness of hearts, we must tell you that as of the end of this year, we will be closing up shop. When we took over the business in 2021, we signed a short, two-year lease with the understanding that our building was in the process of changing ownership. We also understood that there was no guarantee of a lease renewal under new ownership. As of today, we have not been offered a new lease and so, barring the unexpected, our last day of business will be Dec 31st.’

The statement continued, saying that the current venue would be converted into a non-profit community center for black Portlanders, as it was in the past. Understandably, this announcement was a shock to many and hundreds of customers liked and commented the statement, paying their respects to the venue for its quirky acts and community spirit over the years. Still, although this is sad news, it may not be the end.
