Historic Ice Cream Shop location to re-open one year after burning down

In 1948, Edwin Goff unveiled his ice cream shop at 212 South Orange Blossom Trail. Little did he realize that Goff’s Drive In would become a treasure trove of memories for decades. When Goff retired from the ice cream business, William Truesdell and his family stepped in to manage the shop. However, a fire eventually forced its closure.

The establishment remained shut since May 2022, after a fire incident caused by Alfred Jerome Kirkland, 58, as reported by the police. This fire would lead to the final chapter under the Truesdell family who later announced they would be walking away. After this, the future of venue’s location was not known. Now, the shop is set to embark on a fresh chapter under the name Sweetie’s Ice Cream, as announced on Facebook.

Details about Sweetie’s Ice Cream remain limited, but it’s known that the new proprietors are Eric Macintosh Jr. and Jelani Gray, both hailing from Orlando. The soft launch is scheduled for Nov. 4 however a grand opening date has not yet been confirmed.

So, even though Goff’s may have served its last scoop after decades in the game, it looks as though a new era is upon us. Based on this, it will be interesting to see if the menu changes if at all.
