Over the weekend, the Albuquerque Police Department shut down a street racing event with 33 citations and 2 vehicles towed in the process. This was accompanied by an image of a white Mustang being towed away. It is believed that this took place at the intersection of Eubank and both Candelaria and Menaul which is known as a street racing hotspot within the city. Often, Friday is the worst night of the week for street racing, followed by Sunday. Usually, the weekdays are quieter for obvious reasons.

On Twitter, the ABQ Police Department wrote: ‘APD officers issued 33 citations, disabled and towed 2 vehicles during a street racing operation Friday night.’

In recent times, the Albuquerque police force has cracked down on street racing in the area. This is because street racing can lead to serious accidents, injuries, and even fatalities, not to mention the potential for damage to property and public infrastructure. Plus, it can create noise pollution for locals which is not good late into the night.

Interestingly, a number of locals used the Twitter page to claim that this was a PR exercise with the police force targeting soft crime. However, others argued that this showed good policing as street racing can undoubtedly be dangerous and in some cases, lead to fatalities.
