Historic Newark Landmark Clinton Ave Mansion goes up in flames after huge fire
In some rather unfortunate news, the Clinton Ave mansion suffered substantial damage yesterday evening after catching on fire. The building was already in a bad way after a previous fire years before. Now, it is even worse. Footage showed the bulk of the building being ripped apart by flames with a fire crew trying to desperately lessen the damage. At this moment in time, it is not known what or who caused the blaze. However, an investigation is ongoing.
Newark’s Public Safety Director, Fritz Fragé, stated that a fire erupted on Saturday around 7:15 a.m. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, and the situation was deemed under control by 7:32 a.m. Nonetheless, the video below shows that significant damage was already done by then anyway. Back in 2018, it was reported that a squatter ignited a fire in the mansion.
The Kastner Mansion is one of several mansions constructed in the late 1800s for affluent beer magnates. It is believed that the mansion was built specifically for Franz J. Kastner. As a result, it has earned historic status within Newark and was known for its striking architecture.
Due to the damaged it has gone through, the future of this mansion remains unclear, as it could now be destroyed completely and turned into a new venue altogether.
