Popular Gastropub to close – With new pub to take its spot
After a decade of serving customers in the heart of the city, Local on the Square is saying farewell this Saturday (October 28). The popular neighborhood hangout, known for its burgers and craft beer selection, has been a mainstay on the square since 2012. The announcement of the closure was made on their Instagram page, writing: ‘It’s been an amazing 11 years with all of you at Local on the Square. Thank you, Memphis for your longstanding support, the relationships forged, and the memories made.’
It’s been a beloved spot for locals to unwind after work, catch up with friends, and enjoy a tasty bite. The closure is sure to be a blow to the community, but it’s being replaced by another pub which will be taking over soon. According to Local on the Square’s owner, he decided to quit after moving away from the area. As a result, the day-to-day running of the pub became too difficult.
Having said this, beer fans shouldn’t be too upset as this is to be replaced by Madison Tavern which aims to open for Thanksgiving. Like Local on the Square, this venue will also serve food as well as alcohol which will also include burgers and steak. With this being said, it looks as though the new location will have a lot in common with Local on the Square with a few new changes in place.
