Helen’s Sausage House, a renowned breakfast destination in Delaware for over 40 years, is launching its next branch on Saturday, Oct. 28, in Newark’s city center. The venue is located at 145 E. Main St., previously occupied by the Post House and, more recently, Duck Donuts.

They’ll be serving breakfast and lunch daily from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., except on Sundays. Additionally, they’ll be open for late-night dining from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The original Helen’s, situated at 4866 N. Dupont Highway (U.S. 13) close to Smyrna, has been welcoming patrons since 1983.

Initiated by Helen Mary Murphy Achenbach alongside her spouse Melvin ‘Mudge’ Achenbach, it rapidly gained popularity among early birds. Operating from 4 a.m. to noon from Monday to Saturday, the eatery is famed for its crispy Kirby & Holloway sausage sandwiches and pork chops sandwiched between two pieces of white bread. The University of Delaware is just a short distance from this primarily takeout breakfast joint.

The menu at the Newark branch mirrors that of the Smyrna outlet, featuring the signature pork chop sandwiches and the renowned Kirby and Holloway sausage and scrapple. While the Smyrna outlet only accepts cash, the Newark branch will welcome both cash and card payments. It may have taken 40 years, but a new Helen’s is now in Delaware.
