China Express & Donuts up for sale after 30 years of business

After three decades of feeding the hungry masses with a quirky combo of donuts and Chinese fare, China Express & Donuts in San Francisco is hanging up its chef’s hat and calling it quits. Owner Chan, who immigrated to California from Cambodia back in the 80s, has poured his heart and soul into his eatery for decades.

But after the one-two punch of the pandemic and inflation, he’s decided it’s time to retire. Inflation has hit his business hard, and raising prices any higher would mean losing his loyal customer base. It’s a bittersweet goodbye for sure, but Chan can leave knowing he’s served up a lot of delicious food and good times to the community.

The business is now available to buy for $150,000 and is described as ‘averaging $60,000 in sales a month. The lease amount is $9200.’ This also includes a 4000 sq ft basement and various pieces of equipment, such as fridges, grills, and donut-making facilities. It is not known whether anyone will buy this business, or what will happen to the eatery if it fails to sell.

In fact, it’s possible that the buyer could transform it into something differently altogether. Overall, it will be sad if it does change drastically though, as there’s not too many places in San Francisco that offer donuts with Chinese food under one roof.
