Beloved Waffle Joint closes its final location in the city

The final location of Boardwalk Waffles has officially closed its doors. Upon visiting the former site of the ice cream and waffle establishment at 4348 Telegraph Road, it’s evident that the place is no longer in operation, with its signage removed. Similarly, its social media pages have since been closed. For now at least, its original website remains live.

Eric Moore launched the original Boardwalk Waffles & Ice Cream in Maplewood in 2017. The unique concept of serving ice cream on a waffle quickly gained traction.

However, by April, reports indicated that Boardwalk’s attempts to expand across the metro area were facing financial challenges, including legal disputes. The company behind Boardwalk faced lawsuits from four separate landlords.

Moore acknowledged that the business had expanded too rapidly. “We found ourselves in a predicament, but with summer approaching, we’re optimistic about navigating our way out,” he commented.

However, summer didn’t bring the anticipated turnaround. The Boardwalk locations in South Grand, Soulard, and the primary Maplewood store closed in succession. A proposed Midtown outlet never commenced operations. Despite its behind-the-scenes problems, the business gained positive reviews online and was well-liked by St.Louis locals.

Now, with the closure of the south county branch, residents of St. Louis will need to explore other options for their ice cream and waffle cravings. Perhaps Clementine’s might consider offering Egos or Uncle Bill’s could introduce Häagen-Dazs selections.
