Popular Japanese Eatery permanently closes – But a new restaurant will replace it
The beloved Yoshimatsu Japanese Eatery may be closed, but fear not, because owner Yoshimi Tashima has something brand new in the works. Announced on October 23rd, the new concept – Maru Plus promises to be a whole new culinary experience based on noodles.
On Instagram, Yoshimi wrote: “I appreciate all your support. Our new restaurant ‘Maru Plus’ will open Wednesday, November 1. We hope to see you at Maru Plus — former Yoshimatsu location.” This comes complete with Godzilla artwork (holding a bowl of noodles of course). Here, the dinosaur says ‘Itadakimasuuu’ which means ‘I humbly receive’. This is a saying said in Japan before eating food.
This is set to include onigiri (Japanese rice balls), noodles, sushi, and a whole bunch of other mouth-watering morsels. The name Maru Plus is based on a sister location at Silverbell Road. This opened in 2019 and serves similar dishes to the aforementioned. Based on this, we could see Maru Plus follow a similar, tried and tested menu.
The Grand Opening date is Wednesday, November 1 and if the Godzilla artwork is anything to go by, this could be good news for noodle fans. At the same time, fans of Yoshimatsu may feel saddened by this spot’s closure. Sadly, there aren’t too many Japanese restaurants in Tucson, so this eatery will definitely be missed.
