Old Town Donuts in Florissant, St. Louis is temporarily closed after being shut down by the City Health Department. This was first shown on social media which showed a sign posted on the door. This said: ‘Food establishment closed. By order of the Saint Louis County Department of Public Health. $300 fine and possible prosecution for removal of the sign.’

Responding on Facebook, Old Town Donuts wrote: ‘For over 50 years Old Town Donuts has made donuts the same way, with the same recipe, and same equipment’. Continuing, they claimed that after buying used equipment, they had ‘a few unwanted guests.’ The full post can be seen below in more detail.

Based on this last comment, locals speculated that this had to do with cockroaches in a display case. However, at this point, these are just rumors. Still, when an establishment talks about ‘unwanted guests’, you can see how it can quickly lead to gossip.

Because of this development, it is not known when Old Town Donuts will re-open but it may be fairly soon if their deep clean goes to plan. Ironically, the store is known for being open 24 hours a day, so it may be missed by residents with a sweet tooth during its downtime. Furthermore, it wll be interesting to see how this shops reputation performs in the long-run after this episode.
