New Brewery and Burger joint to open in San Francisco

A leading craft brewery in San Francisco, Woods Beer & Wine Co., is set to open a new venue, introducing a popular burger to the city’s residents.

Woods Beer & Wine Co.’s upcoming taproom will be located at 848 Cole St., which was previously occupied by Reverie Cafe in Cole Valley. The cafe shut down last spring after a 21-year run, citing rent increases as the reason.

This new venue will be the seventh for Woods, with other locations scattered across the city, including a primary production site on Treasure Island and an upcoming spot in San Anselmo. Their main facility boasts a beer production capacity of 3,000 barrels annually and a winemaking output of 3,200 cases, facilitated by five concrete fermenters.

The new Cole Valley location will offer signature house beers, such as the Retro pilsner, Fuzz IPA, and a lavender honey-infused herbal ale. They will also serve their brand’s natural wines. While a license application to serve beer and wine at this location is pending, there are no plans for on-site brewing.

The company, founded by Woods in 2006, opened its first brewpub in 2012 near Dolores Park. Operating on a “hub and spoke” model, a central production site caters to all company taprooms. Woods believes this model is more sustainable than vying for supermarket space against larger breweries. He credits this approach for building their brand without incurring significant debt.
