Yesterday, Tulsa residents witnessed an unexpected spectacle as two military helicopters graced the downtown skies. Such a sight is not an everyday occurrence, and it’s only natural for onlookers to be filled with wonder when confronted with such an unplanned display.

In particular, the formation consisted of two Blackhawk H-60s which are commonly used by the US military. It’s not every day that one encounters these types of aircraft and you’ll probably hear these before you see them due to their reputation for producing significant noise. Typically, these cost around $25 million, so they’re not cheap either.

This aerial display was first shared on Reddit by a perplexed user. While it was out of the ordinary, other users chimed in with explanations.

One individual claimed that the aircraft was airborne in conjunction with a recent VIP guest who visited the city. They elaborated, “Saw on Facebook. They were giving tours to VIPs this morning.” This context certainly sheds light on the situation and shows that it wasn’t anything serious. Sometimes this sort of transport is used when high-ranking government members visit cities. Similarly, these helicopters are sometimes given a run-out by local military bases in the area.

Regardless of the rather mundane situation, it was an intriguing display, and certainly not something one would typically encounter on a regular day in Tulsa.
