Michelle Lujan Grisham lambasted over college enrollment claims

New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham was recently lambasted on her Twitter account after boasting about the state’s college enrollment stats. Here, she claimed that college enrollment was up 2.3% statewide and how this would benefit the economy. On the face of it, this seemed like good news. However, her comments weren’t well-received by all. In fact, many of the 130 replies were critical.

Specifically, her Tweet read: ‘When you create the country’s leading tuition-free college program, you get results. College enrollment is up 2.3% statewide! The Opportunity Scholarship is setting a national example for how to support families, build a modern workforce, and strengthen the economy.’

Based on the reactions this Tweet received, Grisham did not get the response that she possibly assumed.

Interestingly, New Mexico Senator Gregg Schmedes didn’t buy into her claims and gave a response of his own, writing: “Why is college enrollment your measure of success? Perhaps job readiness? Starting salary? Skilled workers staying in-state?”

Similarly, another user had a similar stance and claimed: “You mean the country’s leading tax payer-funded college program. We all know it’s not really free. How many of those students are actually graduating vs those that drop out wasting those tax dollars? Stop the spin and tell the truth.”

These were just a couple of the many comments that questioned the validity of her claims. This shows that sometimes, there’s more to the picture than meets the eye.
