Josh Shapiro challenged after tax cut comments

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro recently made comments on his personal Twitter account where he claimed to be using tax cuts to help fund the state’s seniors as they entered retirement. He claimed that this policy was the biggest tax cut in nearly two decades.

Specifically, his Tweet read: ‘Our wisest Pennsylvanians deserve to live their golden years with dignity. My Administration is developing a historic 10-year plan to better serve our seniors — and we’re putting more money back in their pockets by delivering the largest targeted tax cut for them in nearly two decades.’

Despite his clear optimism, it’s fair to say that not all Pennsylvanians agreed with his statement. In fact, many used the platform to criticize their governor when it came to his claims.

One user named Erik Asher replied by saying: “If you really want to help seniors out a lot, just get rid of the state income tax. It’s not necessary and a lot of states do just fine without it.” In fairness, Asher makes a good point. This comment didn’t use vitriol to get its point across either. However, state income tax does seem a dated system to many.

Another user named Lala Anne added a similar claim and quipped: “Please abolish the estate tax like most states have done as part of this. Allow them to pass along their wealth without taxing it again. It was already taxed the first time!”

Clearly, not everyone agreed with Shapiro and believed his idea of tax cuts didn’t go far enough.
