San Diego County health officials are investigating reports of E. coli cases linked to a popular restaurant, Miguel’s Cocina in 4S Ranch. The restaurant has voluntarily closed its doors as the investigation continues, and a sign on the front door reads ‘Sorry we are closed until further notice.’ Miguel’s Cocina is known for its Mexican food.

The specific menu items that may have caused the E. coli outbreak are still being investigated, but the restaurant is working closely with the County health department. It’s always concerning when a restaurant is linked to a foodborne illness outbreak, and hopefully, the investigation will be swift and thorough to get to the bottom of the issue.

E. coli, or Escherichia coli, is a type of bacteria found in the intestines of humans and animals. Most strains of E. coli are harmless, but some can cause serious illness, especially in young children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.

The symptoms of an E. coli infection can vary, but often include abdominal cramps, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), and vomiting. In severe cases, an E. coli infection can lead to dehydration, kidney failure, and even death. The bacteria can be transmitted through contaminated food or water, or through contact with an infected person or animal. Proper handwashing and food handling practices can help prevent the spread of E. coli. At this moment in time, it is not known when the venue will re-open.
