New Asian Market delays opening due to copper thieves

Yesterday, Many More Asian Mart updated their followers on Facebook regarding a robbery that has delayed the opening of their new location. Originally, their next spot was planned to open within a matter of days. Now an exact date has yet to be confirmed as this has delayed their opening by a matter of months.

Writing on Facebook, they said this: ‘Oh no. While we were hoping to open at the beginning of November, a misfortunate event has unfolded in the most unexpected way possible. All of the copper metal got stolen from the new units we have sitting in the parking lot. Not only is gonna cost money to replace, if it is possible to be replaced; but the expected time to replace the missing part is estimated to be around 3-6 months.’

As seen, this is any business’s nightmare and will also cost them thousands in rent during the time they aren’t open. The new location is situated in Strip District and would have marked a bigger location compared to the original Smallman Street location. Copper theft has always been a popular criminal enterprise as it is a highly valuable metal, with a high price. It is also easily stripped from buildings, power lines, and other infrastructure, making it a relatively simple target for thieves. Lastly, copper can be easily sold to scrap metal dealers, who often pay cash for the material with little oversight or regulation.
