In March last year, Danzer’s German & American Gasthof closed after pledging to re-open under new ownership. It’s been a while, but Danzer’s recently re-opened meaning that it kept the original promise. Because this took place over 18 months after its closure, you can also see how Syracuse locals may have grown cynical as to whether Danzer’s would actually re-open or not.

As mentioned, the revised menu also comes with a strange twist which may (or may not) go down well with fans of the original menu. This is the addition of pizza and lots of it. In fact, its Facebook page now describes itself as ‘Danzer’s Pizza Pub’. As Bavarian food isn’t really known for its pizzas, it is not known whether this twist will work in the long run, and it’s certainly different.

In fact, according to one local who recently received a flyer from Danzer’s, the bulk of the menu is now pizza-based. Speaking on Reddit, they wrote: “My building got menus delivered last week. it’s mostly pizza and similar, and you have to hunt to find a few German items. They claim they deliver but their website doesn’t really seem to allow ordering, so I guess it’s phone only? It’s hard to get excited about yet another pizza/pasta place.” Based on this menu, it will be interesting to see if Danzer’s can finally turn the corner, or whether it will be destined for yet another re-opening at some point down the line.
