LA’s oldest comic book store to close later this year

Yesterday, Geoffrey’s Comics and Hi De Ho Comics announced that they would be closing permanently on December 31, 2023. The announcement was made on their Instagram page which they described as a ‘sad day’. However, they confirmed that their pull service would continue as a delivery option.

As well as this, the statement paid thanks to the fans and the fond memories created over the years. In fact, the Instagram statement was incredibly long and detailed various reasons behind the closure. To keep things brief, they claimed that Covid played a major contributing factor in their demise.

On Instagram, they wrote: ‘Geoffrey’s Comics and Hi De Ho Comics opened in 1977. We were literally the first comic book stores in Los Angeles. But now, sadly, Geoffrey’s and Hi-De-Ho Comics must close their doors December 31, 2023.’ The full statement can be seen in greater detail below.

Unsurprisingly, many locals gave their respects to the store, with some claiming that they grew up using the shop. Because of this, it’s fair to say that this isn’t your average closure and its presence will definitely be missed. Not only was it known for comic books but it was also a community hub where people could hang out and play games like MTG. Put differently, this will be impossible to replace. At this moment in time, it is not known what will replace its absence.
