Hawaii Governor Josh Green was recently challenged after posting on his personal Twitter page regarding Hawaii’s inaugural gun buyback program. Here, Green proudly wrote: ‘Thanks to the collective efforts of our community, we’ve made a significant stride toward a safer and healthier Hawai‘i. Our inaugural gun buyback program was a remarkable success – 494 firearms were collected today, including ghost guns and antiques.’ He also continued, claiming that Uzi’s and other guns had also been collected.

Despite the collection of illegal firearms being undoubtedly a positive thing, many Hawaiians took to Twitter to vent their frustration at Green on a variety of issues. These included the wildfires, photo ops, and the cost of living. In other words, they viewed this exercise as a political distraction.

One user named Jane Wisdom called out the Governor and replied by saying: “Governor Green – sorry cannot rehab your reputation with this nonsense. I doubt Lahaina feels safer and healthier. Any updates on missing people? Are you getting the survivors housing/protecting their property rights?”

Another user named Another resident named Hillary wrote: “That’s just because people are so broke from left-wing policies that they can’t even afford groceries, let alone ammo. What happened to ending GE tax on groceries, huh? Is eating not a basic human right, Josh? You ran on false promises. You haven’t helped anyone.”

These were just two of a number of comments that showed many islanders weren’t happy with Green and his policies.
