Cincinnati locals bemused after new Kroger fridges display invasive ads

Cincinnati locals recently voiced their displeasure after a photo in Kroger on Harrison Ave went viral. This showed new adverts that covered the drinks fridges. Previously, customers could look through the glass and find their drinks of choice.

Now, these were covered with an LED screen that showed adverts for Pepsi, Apple Pay, candy, football, and other things. As you may expect, this would be an inconvenience as a customer, as the displays would block you from finding certain items which is even worse if you were in a hurry.

This news was originally shared on Reddit and did not go down well with its users. Here, they criticized Kroger for monetizing fridge doors and making their shopping experience more corporate than ever. Reacting to the image, one user wrote: “Well I certainly didn’t need another reason to stop shopping at Kroger, but GPS tracking my route through the store, hiking the price unless you can see my purchases and history, and now making it hard to see your product in the first place is a pretty good set of reasons. At least Cincinnati has plenty of grocery chain options.”

Interestingly, these ads are meant to work by disappearing when their censor notices someone nearby. However, this is often not the case due to technical bugs, meaning they often cover the products and make for an annoying experience.
