Greg Gianforte challenged after Montana unemployment comments

Montana Governor Greg Gianforte was recently challenged on his Twitter account surrounding comments he made based on unemployment figures in the state. Here, Gianforte boasted how Montana’s unemployment was under 3%. In comparison to the rest of the country, these numbers are impressive. However, not everyone bought into his comments and used it as a platform to criticize the governor.

Specifically, Gianforte wrote: “Montana just recorded its 23rd consecutive month of unemployment below 3%. Before now, we’d only seen unemployment this low THREE TIMES since recordkeeping began 50 years ago.” The full tweet can be seen below.

This comment prompted nearly 60 replies and while some of them complimented his policies, not everyone saw the positive side of things. Replying to the comment, one constituent wrote: “Gee…probably because Montanans have to work 2 and sometimes 3 poorly-wage jobs to keep from being homeless! We see what you’re doing to Montana, and it’s disgusting!”

Similarly, another Montanan named David Ferguson added: “Good thing we have all those jobs so we can pay that 43 percent property tax hike you imposed.” Clearly, there was a degree of pushback to Gianforte’s comments and some weren’t impressed with his take on things. This shows that in politics, you will always have critics around the corner, no matter how good the news first appears.
