Beloved Fort Worth Restaurant set to move location after 23 years

Reata Restaurant, a beloved establishment in Sundance Square, has recently unveiled its forthcoming relocation plans, albeit with the possibility of further moves in the future.

The restaurant is set to inhabit a space within The Tower building at 530 Throckmorton St. by July 2024. It’s worth noting that Reata’s initial Fort Worth location was situated in the same building back in 1997. Unfortunately, due to an F1 tornado in 2000, the restaurant was compelled to relocate to its present address at 310 Houston St.

According to Mike Micallef, Reata’s President, this interim move is considered a stepping stone before a more permanent location is identified. Micallef shared that the restaurant’s leadership had explored various locations within Tarrant County but ultimately decided to keep Reata in the heart of downtown Fort Worth.

Micallef also highlighted the growing number of hotels and residences in the downtown area, further reinforcing the decision to remain there. Reata will continue its operations at the current location until June 30, 2024, with its catering division, Reata on the Road, functioning without interruption during the transition.

The new venue is situated on the northeast side of The Tower, occupying the former space of Cantina Laredo, a contemporary Mexican restaurant that closed following the pandemic. This location is approximately equivalent in size to Reata’s present main dining room. However, Micallef mentioned that efforts are underway to find a space that can substitute for the many meeting rooms at the current location.

Micallef emphasized Reata’s resilience throughout its history, having weathered challenges like a tornado, the COVID-19 pandemic, and issues with its Sundance Square landlord. Notably, SADA Tower LLC of Texas and SADA Capital Partners LLC, an Illinois-based real estate holdings group, acquired The Tower and The Tower Annex buildings in June 2022. Since the acquisition, SADA has successfully secured various tenants, including the relocation of the 74,000-square-feet corporate headquarters of the renowned workwear company, Dickies.
