A bottle shop and wine bar located in Walker’s Point has been temporarily closed due to an unfortunate incident in which a vehicle crashed through the storefront’s windows in the early hours of Saturday.

Thelma Carol Wine Merchants, situated at 605 W. Virginia St., now finds itself amidst shattered glass and debris as a result of the accident. Co-owner Rebecca Button expressed that the crash caused significant damage, resulting in the destruction of numerous wine bottles and other inventory items, amounting to thousands of dollars in losses.

The vehicle involved in the incident was left inside the store when both the owners and authorities arrived shortly after the collision. Its driver had abandoned the scene after smashing through the glass panels on the store’s north side, according to Button.

As of now, there is no information available from the Milwaukee Police Department regarding the apprehension of a suspect in connection with the incident.

Thelma Carol Wine Merchants, which opened its doors just last year, is located in Walker’s Point, in proximity to a roundabout surrounded by various bars and restaurants, including Conejito’s Place, Great Lakes Distillery, and MobCraft Beer.

The Walker’s Point Association plans to address concerns about traffic safety and reckless driving during its upcoming community meeting scheduled for October 31st from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at The George, located at 429 W. National Ave.

The damage incurred was particularly extensive in the Italian wine section of the store, where many of the higher-priced and more valuable wines were stored. Additionally, a selection of unique and ‘irreplaceable’ furniture pieces, which had been carefully chosen and sourced over several months by Button, also suffered damage or destruction.
