Popular pub faces closure after 30 years of business

In the previous spring, precisely on April 30th, Parkview Tavern hosted an event to celebrate its 30th year in its current form. Kathy Anderson, who serves as the managing partner of this Mid-City establishment, had hoped to use this occasion to announce her and her business partner’s acquisition of the property. However, this plan did not come to fruition, and it now appears that the upcoming anniversary may indeed be the final one at this particular location.

Anderson, alongside her business partner Mark Malhiot, had been actively pursuing the purchase of the property from their long-standing landlord, Cliff Wagner. Surprisingly, Wagner decided to sell the property located at 910 N. Carrollton Ave. to the owners of the neighboring business, Blue Oak BBQ, instead.

The lease for Parkview Tavern is set to expire on April 30, 2024. Anderson revealed that the new lease terms presented to her were deemed unworkable. She possesses a letter from the attorney representing the new property owners, indicating the need to vacate by that specified date.

Nevertheless, Anderson and Malhiot still retain ownership of Parkview Tavern and are actively searching for a new property to relocate their business.

In the meantime, the news regarding the future of this neighborhood bar has stirred significant distress and discord among those who considered it a cherished part of their community. Although the property sale occurred last spring, the topic has resurfaced on social media platforms, particularly after Anderson’s appearance as a guest on the ‘Obligations at the Lounge’ podcast, hosted by Ryan Scully and Howie Huber, from the Bywater bar BJ’s Lounge.

For now, this saga seems set to rumble on but hopefully will not spell the end for this New Orleans institution.
