Hoopla! Emporium to close after 16 years of business

October 22, 2023 by No Comments

One of Pasadena’s quirkiest stores has announced that it will be closing in just 10 days. Hoopla! Emporium has been operating in the area since 2007 and announced its closing down sale yesterday on its official Instagram account. Here, it also mentioned that many items will be significantly discounted. Over the past few weeks, certain products have been marked with discounts as high as 75% off.

The news was also mentioned on Reddit by a local sleuth who wrote this: “The fun and funky gift store Hoopla! at 2591 Fair Oaks Ave, Altadena is closing and everything is marked way, way down. (There was a change of landlords, a big rent hike, and they have not found a new space.) Tons of greeting cards, jewelry, holiday decor, soaps, candles, and gift items plus display cases, fixtures, lighting, etc. Check their Facebook Page for photos.”

Although this will come as bad news to many fans of the store, it is also somewhat fitting to see it closing in the month of October. Hoopla! was known for its variety of gothic-themed items such as skulls, and creepy paintings among other quirky products. With this in mind, it’s fair to say that Hoopla! truly was one of a kind and will not be replaced easily. It also shows the changing commercial landscape of Pasadena, with smaller, independent stores being priced out.
