A full-scale reproduction of the renowned flagship from Magellan-Elcano’s historic expedition, the Nao Trinidad, is scheduled to arrive in Delaware City on October 18th. It will be moored at Roundout Creek near the parking area, accessible via shuttle service from 302 Canal Street.

Admission tickets for this event are priced at $15 for adults, $5 for children, and $35 for families. The ship will be open for public tours from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. between October 18th and October 22nd.

During the visit, attendees will have the unique opportunity to explore four different decks, gaining insights into what life was like on board during the historical period of the original ship and how it contrasts with contemporary living conditions on a ship of this nature. Visitors will also have the chance to learn about sailing maneuvers, examine the rigging, and engage with the ship’s crew.

After previous stops in Kingston and Oyster City, where it attracted over 8,000 visitors, the Nao Trinidad is continuing its journey to Delaware City, where it aims to further promote maritime heritage.

The Nao Trinidad served as the flagship of the Armada del Maluco (1519-1522), which was commanded by Ferdinand Magellan. Out of the five ships (Naos) that set out from Sevilla, only two successfully reached the Spice Islands, with the Nao Trinidad being one of them.

This replica vessel boasts impressive dimensions, weighing 150 tons, measuring 93 feet in length with a 26-foot beam. It features three masts, a bowsprit, and a mainmast soaring over 82 feet high, along with five sails and five decks. It was meticulously crafted using Iroko (African hardwood) and pinewood. The Nao Trinidad has sailed to numerous ports along the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic European Coast, functioning as both a training vessel and a floating museum.
