New Taco Restaurant opens in Detroit
Following significant anticipation, Shell Shock’d Tacos is now welcoming patrons for carryout at its physical location in the Cass Corridor.
Located at 418 W. Willis St., this eatery is currently offering a select menu, featuring items such as chicken tacos, birria tacos, grilled corn adorned with cheese and various toppings (elote), nachos, and elote-style wings.
Shell Shock’d Tacos initially commenced its culinary journey in 2021 through a series of mobile food pop-ups held throughout the city. The restaurant has documented over 100 pop-up events in the Metro Detroit region, and earlier this year, it temporarily halted its pop-up operations to focus on the refurbishment of its brick-and-mortar establishment.
Since its inception, Shell Shock’d Tacos has swiftly gained popularity in Detroit, amassing a substantial following of over 15,000 Instagram users. Furthermore, it earned the People’s Choice award at last year’s Taco Showdown in Eastern Market. In the culinary realm, it was one of the top 10 semifinalists in the 2023 Comerica Hatch Detroit contest and was honored as Restaurant of the Year during the annual DON awards hosted by Detroit rapper Big Sean.
For the time being, the restaurant will exclusively provide carryout services on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, operating from 5 p.m. until the last customer is served or their food inventory is depleted. It’s important to note that dine-in service will not be available until the restaurant’s renovation is completed, with no specific timeline provided at this point.
