Beloved Oakland Pub announces closure – But there is a big twist included
After years of business, The Golden Squirrel Pub as you know it has finally closed. This was a very quiet closure which saw the business change hands to new owners who announced its closure on Instagram. Here, they confirmed that the pub had closed (last week on Sunday) and that it would be re-opening by the end of this month.
This means that it may be a completely different operation altogether and may not even be a pub. However, they confirmed that it would be keeping the original Golden Squirrel name out of respect for the venue. From a business perspective, this also makes sense considering how popular it was after years of business.
In their Instagram post, the new owners proclaimed: ‘Hello Rockridge! We have a message as the new owners of the Golden Squirrel: First, we want to wish the previous owners and management of the Golden Squirrel the best in all their future endeavors. We humbly thank you for passing the torch and entrusting us with the legacy and importance that this location has within the community of Rockridge, and College Avenue.’
After this, they also issued another Instagram statement which further outlined their future plans. With this being said, it may be a case of business as usual and the venue may not actually see too many changes. Nonetheless, by the tone of the message, it looks like a few changes will definitely made. However, this will be revealed in the future, and for now it looks like customers will just have to be patient and see how it goes.
