Minneapolis Police clear homeless camp – But will it work?

Recently, there has been a noticeable increase in the presence of a homeless community at E Lake St and 1st Ave S in Minneapolis. Yesterday, local authorities recently implemented measures to completely disband this settlement, resulting in cleaner streets in the area. This development was initially shared on Reddit, generating a heated discussion regarding the effectiveness of this strategy in the long term.

As seen in the image below, this took place on the doorstep of Hibachi Buffet, where numerous cop cars and transportation vehicles were spotted. Clearly, there was a lot of garbage, tents, and people to move.

Reacting to the image, one local had this to say: “Somewhere else. Take it from someone who spent years in California watching the homeless encampments do circles: Destroying encampments doesn’t solve the issue, it just migrates it across to the next street.”

This is a valid point and right now, it is unknown where the encampment will move to. However, it would make logical sense that they would relocate to a similar space in the near future. This shows that this policy may be futile despite the best efforts of the city and police. Nevertheless, it is undeniably satisfying to witness the streets of Minneapolis being returned to their intended use, even if this restoration is only temporary.
