Tina Kotek blasted over Oregon job claims
Oregon Governor Tina Kotek was recently criticized after boasting about employment figures in Oregon. Here, she took to her Twitter account to spread the good news. However, not everyone saw it this way. Her Tweet read: ‘$40 billion and 6,000 new jobs is good news for Oregon!’ This linked to an article that explained the economic growth in the state.
As is often the case with grand claims and big numbers, the real detail is often beyond the headlines. It seems that some of her constituents believed so too, as more than 40 people commented. The Tweet can be seen in greater detail below.
Here, one user replied saying this: “This is planned economy thinking just like the Soviet’s 5-year plan. The money will be invested in the politically connected, not in the economically feasible. Kotek, never having worked outside politics thinks she can conjure up jobs. Most Oregonians voted against her.”
Another user quipped: “Ain’t gonna happen. No one wants to move here and live anywhere near Portland.” This comment relates to the fact that Portland’s population shrunk by 3% from 2020 to 2022. It looks like this user had a point. Love her or hate her, it looks as though this is yet another case of Kotek dividing her state with her thoughts and comments.
