New Italian restaurant to open in Charlotte

Next summer, an express version of the popular local chain, Portofino’s, is set to open in Uptown, marking the fifth addition to the Charlotte-area locations. The other four can be found on Park Road, in Arboretum, east Charlotte, and Indian Land.

This family-owned restaurant, known for its classic foldable New York-style slices, is renowned for serving some of the finest pizzas in Charlotte. However, it’s worth noting that owner Josh Coppola has refrained from opening another Portofino’s since the Indian Land location, which opened approximately five years ago. Coppola, who hails from Italy, launched the inaugural Portofino’s on Eastway Drive back in 1996. Since then, Portofino’s has gone on to win stellar reviews across Charlotte, with many believing that it is one of the best Italian restaurants in the city.

Spanning 2,500 square feet, the Uptown location will offer indoor seating. In a departure from its other establishments, Portofino’s Uptown will exclusively provide counter service. Operating during lunch and dinner hours, the menu will encompass offerings such as pizza by the slice, Philly cheesesteaks, salads, panini, and pasta dishes. The new Portofino’s Uptown can be found at 101 N. Tryon St., situated on the ground floor of One Independence Center, in proximity to the forthcoming Monarch Market food hall. The precise opening date for this location is yet to be announced.
