New Burger and Shake joint to open near Asheville soon

A new restaurant is soon to open in Weaverville, which is roughly 10 minutes away from Asheville. Located near Walmart and Lowes, a drive-thru is currently being built that will be the new home to a Hwy 55 restaurant.

For those wondering, Hwy 55, is a regional fast-food restaurant chain in the United States that specializes in American-style burgers, hot dogs, and milkshakes. It’s also known for its retro and nostalgic diner theme, which includes servers in old-fashioned uniforms and a decor reminiscent of the 1950s and 1960s. The chain was founded in North Carolina in 1991, and it has expanded to have multiple locations in several states, primarily in the southeastern United States.

News of its arrival originally broke on Reddit, where a resident curiously asked about the place after seeing the drive-thru being built which had black and red coloring (the same as Hwy 55’s color scheme). Replying to this comment, one user wrote: “If it’s the little square of dirt just to the north of Walmart’s parking lot, the building permit information says it’s going to be a Hwy55,” which indicates that they had seen the permit.

Further evidence of its imminent arrival was announced on an Asheville food group last year on Facebook. Now, it looks like construction on the site has developed rapidly since. Having said this, it is still too early to give an exact opening date.
