Mike DeWine criticized over ‘contradictory’ domestic abuse comments
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine was recently criticized over recent domestic abuse comments he made on his personal Twitter account. Yesterday, DeWine announced a partnership with the Ohio Domestic Violence Network surrounding victims of trafficking. While this cannot be framed as bad news, some people called him contradictory due to his political stances found elsewhere.
Specifically, DeWine wrote: ‘Today, we announced a new partnership between @OhioAntiHTrfk& the Ohio Domestic Violence Network that will help fill a major gap in Ohio’s human trafficking response. @OhioDVNmember programs are stepping up to support survivors of human trafficking’ which was in relation to domestic violence awareness month.
Replying to this tweet, one user wrote: “But go and force rape victims to carry the abuser’s child. You’re so full of contradictions,” which was in relation to Ohio’s recent Issue 1 debate that DeWine is strongly involved with.
On a similar note, another user named Michael Powers quipped: “You have been a failure for Ohio Mike. I voted yes on one for the women and kids in Ohio.” Of course, the whole Issue 1 issue is arguably far more nuanced than this. Nonetheless, it seems as though DeWine has his fair share of vocal critics when it comes to the matter. Based on this, it will be interesting to see how both DeWine and Ohio gets on moving forward.
