Bus damaged after driving into sinkhole

Yesterday, a bus was an unfortunate victim of a sinkhole in Pittsburgh, which highlights the growing number of sinkholes that currently plague the city streets. This happened in South Side on Bingham Street and was uploaded to Twitter. Here, it showed that the tire on the front of the bus had fallen foul of the sinkhole which had caused major damage to the vehicle which would need a repair job as a result.

Here, the Tweet read: ‘South Side. Bingham Street. Part of a bus has fallen into a sinkhole leading to a new semi-regular Pittsburgh tradition.’

After the incident, the bus was recovered and eventually hauled away for maintenance. Pittsburgh residents will only remember too well the infamous Pittsburgh sinkhole bus of 2020 when a huge sinkhole swallowed roughly half of an entire bus which made national headlines. Thankfully though, this incident was much less severe in comparison. Nonetheless, this still didn’t stop the comparisons from being made.

Typically, sinkholes found in urban areas such as Pittsburgh are a result of gradual soil erosion caused by water. The extensive development and pavement covering much of the region have disrupted the natural flow of stormwater. Sometimes, these conditions can be aggrevated with cold weather which means sinkhole season may soon be upon us.
