Van Leeuwen’s Ice Cream to open its first location in Jersey City

Van Leeuwen is coming to Jersey City after agreeing on a lease to work from 347 Grove Street, downtown. This will be its first location in the city, after gaining notable success in neighboring areas such as New York. The announcement was first made on the Historic Downtown Jersey City Instagram account which was met with both excitement and some backlash from locals. This is because some preferred to support local ice cream shops like Torico’s over chains such as Van Leeuwen’s. Interestingly, this will be the third ice cream place to open within a two-block radius in the last 6 months.

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is an artisanal ice cream company known for producing high-quality, small-batch ice cream using premium ingredients. The company was founded by Ben Van Leeuwen, Laura O’Neill, and Pete Van Leeuwen in 2008 in Brooklyn, New York. Van Leeuwen Ice Cream has gained popularity for its commitment to using natural and organic ingredients and avoiding artificial additives, preservatives, and stabilizers. Although known for its high-quality treats, it is also known to be quite expensive compared to alternatives.

The company offers a variety of unique and classic ice cream flavors, as well as vegan and dairy-free options made with alternatives like cashew milk and coconut milk. Van Leeuwen’s flavors range from traditional favorites like chocolate and vanilla to more unconventional and creative choices such as honeycomb, Earl Grey tea, and rosewater pistachio. The exact opening date has not yet been confirmed.
