Tim Walz challenged after Minnesota child care comments

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz recently made comments about boosting pay for childcare providers. This came after news that the state was launching a $316 million program to help fund carers. Here, Walz claimed the economy wouldn’t work without them.

Although this was announced as a positive, it seems as though many Minnesotans disagreed with him in the comments. Overall, more than 60 people had their say. While some comments were neutral or positive, it’s also fair to say that a lot of people weren’t particularly pleased with their governor.

His Tweet read: ‘Minnesota’s economy doesn’t work without child care providers. Without their care, parents can’t work and children miss early learning opportunities critical to brain development. We’re recognizing that by boosting pay for child care providers.’

This prompted a reply by a man named Raymond Peterson who claimed: “Yet that $316 million dollars (plus bureaucratic overhead) is taken from those same providers and working parents through increased taxes thereby locking them into another government program.”

On a similar note, one user also made a good point and added: “I’m no economist, but won’t supplementing childcare workers pay just end up going to the bottom line of the large daycare centers because they can pay their people less?”

Regardless of your stance, it looks as though many people didn’t buy Walz’s funding for this scheme and viewed it with disdain.
