Image shows flooded downtown streets after biblical floods

After huge rainfall yesterday, downtown Portland was absolutely flooded. This was captured perfectly in a photo that showed an entire street submerged in water. Unsurprisingly, no cars were using this road which is a sensible idea considering the height of the water.

For experienced Portland residents, this sight comes as an annual event when the real rain season begins. However, for outsiders, it may seem quite extreme. Ultimately, this is why stormwater fees are a part of the city bill.

This image was originally uploaded to Reddit which started a discussion on the recent flooding that the city has endured. Responding to the rain, one user wrote: “That was some of the harder rain I can remember here. My house is having some work done and missing a downspout due to repairs and I had to be out there pushing it away from the house so it didn’t seep into the old basement. My Gore-tex jacket completely soaked through.”

To make things even more Portland-esque, the rainwater was also accompanied by brown, autumnal leaves that had fallen from the trees. Interestingly, Portland is expected to have a few days rest until Sunday when the storm season looks set to return with yet more rain. Love it or hate it, it looks as though rain season is here for the foreseeable future.
