In a sad turn of events, Evergreen Valley College yesterday put out an update surrounding the news that a body had been found in a pond on their site. At this point in time, there is little available information surrounding the body which has not yet been identified.

The statement read: ‘Dear students, at 10:38 this morning, Police Services received a report of a possible body in the pond on campus. Chief Morales and his team surveyed and secured the area and notified the appropriate partners to investigate the information. The Santa Clara County Dive Team and the Coroner’s Office responded this afternoon, confirming and removing the body. We have no details on the individual at this time and await the official report from the Coroner’s Office. However, an initial assessment appears that there was no foul play. I want to assure you that the campus is safe.’

As mentioned in the above statement, foul play has been ruled out so it is possible that this was some kind of freak accident. Nonetheless, it is still a saddening story. Evergreen Valley College is located on a 160-acre site in the eastern foothills of San Jose and historically had very few deaths on its campus. With this said, this is why the news comes as a shock to many in the area.
