Driverless Cruise Car blocks intersection after Astros game due to malfunction

Yesterday, an image captured an autonomous vehicle causing delays at an intersection in Houston after the Astros game. It’s widely known that self-driving cars have been a presence on Houston streets for some time now, and this was one of the Cruise cars. While the majority of these vehicles operate smoothly, it’s evident that a few still experience initial issues.

In this particular instance, the driverless car blocked transportation and created a bit of havoc. This vehicle can be distinguished by the sensor mounted on its roof and brand on its side. Clearly, this could have led to a car accident but thankfully the issue was eventually resolved.

The image was originally uploaded to Reddit by a frustrated passenger who snapped the picture. According to other Houstonians in the thread, this had happened before in the city with other driverless cars. Clearly, they are experiencing teething problems while adjusting to the road patterns.

The timing of this incident will not be welcomed by Cruise, as it comes literally days after rolling out their robotaxi service which operates daily from 9 PM to 6 AM in various parts of the city. Fortunately, this incident was eventually resolved without any injuries. Nevertheless, it serves as a timely reminder that technology may still require refinements at times.
