Second Line Brewing cancels event due to influence of pro-life Catholic Charities

A New Orleans brewery has decided to cancel a reservation made by Catholic Charities upon discovering promotional materials that clearly indicated the event’s anti-abortion nature.

The gathering, originally named ‘Pro-Life and Pints,’ had been slated for October 26th at Second Line Brewing in Mid-City. Catholic Charities had posted about the event on social media, but the post has since been removed. It was mentioned that the event would feature three nuns addressing the topic of abortion.

In an Instagram statement, Second Line claimed to be deeply sorry and wrote: “We recently agreed to host a public event at our brewery but were regrettably unaware of the nature of the event. When advertisements for the event were brought to our attention, we informed the host that we will no longer be able to offer Second Line Brewing as a venue.”

Screenshots of the initial advertisement can also be seen in more detail here.

Catholic Charities expressed their disappointment and indicated their intention to find an alternative venue for the event. The canceled gathering was designed for adults to come together for food, prizes, and guest speakers. The $20 entry fee included two beers, or for those under 21, non-alcoholic beverages. Second Line Brewing offered an apology for initially agreeing to host the event.
