Yesterday, a widely shared image brought attention to the significant litter problem in 880/High St, Oakland. Here, it showed the streets were plagued by an excess of discarded items, such as food containers and plastic bottles strewn across the sidewalks. It was evident that certain residents in this region showed a clear lack of concern for keeping their surroundings clean, as the abundant trash was plainly visible to all.

The image was originally uploaded to Reddit, where the person who captured the image claimed to have bagged the rubbish up. Apparently, this took up to 20 garbage bags to get rid of, which was done by the person who uploaded the original photo. This shows that there is at least some good in the world.

Responding to the good deed, a number of users praised their efforts for bagging the trash, with some going as far as to call them a hero. One person even wrote: “You are fantastic, thank you for doing this!”

Sadly, it appears that this issue is unlikely to improve in the near future. This is an unfortunate situation that could be easily remedied if people demonstrated more thoughtfulness. However, it also sheds a negative light on certain Oakland residents who seemingly do not prioritize the well-being of others or the condition of their city.
