Yesterday, a Salt Lake City resident had an unexpected encounter when they witnessed a wild coyote while walking in the Draper Foothills. This surprise photo led to the picture being uploaded to the internet where others discussed the theme of coyotes in Salt Lake City, as such sightings are infrequent in the surrounding areas. While coyotes in Salt Lake City aren’t completely rare, they’re still not exactly common either.

Typically, most coyote sightings in the region are captured on camera during the nighttime when it’s safer for them to hunt without human interference. Additionally, there have been reports of coyotes attacking pets within the city as well. As a result, sightings of coyotes are often meant to be reported to the DNR as they can easily leave a destructive path in their trail when it comes to killing local, domestic animals.

The image was originally uploaded to Reddit where users commented on the unusual sighting. While many complimented coyotes as beautiful animals, others weren’t as complimentary towards them.
