Doug Burgum challenged over Presidential tax cut promises
North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum recently promised tax cuts if he were to be elected as the President of the USA. Cutting taxes has been a big theme of his campaign and he hasn’t been shy about these policies. Recently, Burgum took to Twitter and wrote: ‘As president, I will oppose any and all tax hikes on the American people! In North Dakota we cut taxes, cut spending and the trains still ran on time! When it comes to politicians offering tax cuts, this often gets alarm bells ringing with the public. This is because historically, such claims never come to fruition and can sometimes be seen as gimmicks during the campaign trail.
Here, a constituent close to Burgum’s home had this to say regarding his tweet: “How about abolishing property taxes in North Dakota? Give us some relief that we can actually feel. That $20 I saved on income taxes last year didn’t even cover lunch for two.”
Similarly, a user named Darell wrote: “My property taxes are Sky high in Fargo, obviously you lie when you talk about cutting taxes. Whose taxes are being cut? Must be just you.” These were just a selection of tweets aimed toward Burgum. Clearly, his tax promises aren’t taken seriously, even if his heart is in the right place.
